Hello, Everyone!
I want to thank those of you who have visited
Kandi's
Korner! You have been so kind and supportive!
Many of you have commented on my hair. I must say it is a big
change for me, but I really like it! It was Jimmy's idea for me to
go dark with some red. I think the inspiration came from the time
he spent performing in the play, "Chicago", in the U.K. One of the
lead characters (I believe her name is Velma?) has dark, red hair.
When Jay and I went to see Jimmy in Birmingham, we went backstage
with him to his dressing room. As we were all talking, he
mentioned that he thought I would look good with hair like
Velma's. I agreed that it was time for a change (I've been blonde
all my life). He wanted to get the stage hairdresser to do my hair
that very day, but circumstances didn't work out that way, so I
came home to Utah and had my hairstylist, Melissa, do it for me. I
think she did a lovely job, but Jimmy thinks it should still be
much more RED! What do you think?
Great news! Sharee (my sister-in-law and business partner) and I
had an appointment to try to sell some of our creations to a
boutique in Saratoga Springs, Utah. I packed up everything to show
the owner, and hope she likes our things. It's always so
nerve-wrecking to try something new, don't you think? There's
always that fear of rejection, but if we don't try, how will we
ever know what we can do? Besides, it's an exciting new adventure!
My little office, Kandi's Korner, is my sanctuary. It's in the
corner bedroom in the basement of our home. When we originally
built the house, this room was going to be Jay's office. We put a
desk, a credenza and Jimmy's old massage chair in there for him to
use. We all soon discovered that this arrangement was not going to
work out. Jay found himself working out of our kitchen most of the
time. He likes to lay out his papers on the kitchen counter and
walk around while he's on the phone (and eats snacks, like one of
his favorites - fruit). His office, on the other hand was becoming
more and more of a storage area for Jay's things, which was
driving me nuts! It was really very wasted space, so I decided I
would adopt that space as my own. We cleaned Jay's storage out and
began calling it Kandi's Korner from that moment on.
One day, I decided that I wanted to make it truly MY space. I
chose lavender and apple green as my starting point. I decided
since the room represented me and my likes, my interests, and just
things in general that make me happy, I decided that I will not
allow anything in that room that doesn't feel like "me." It
has worked out beautifully. It's my favorite place to be.
The thing I find interesting is that our family seems to like to
hang out in "Kandi's Korner" as well. Since we have Jimmy's old
massage chair in the room, it makes a cozy appeal for others to
come in and sit on the chair and talk to me while their back is
being massaged. We have a lot of fun conversations that way.
Sometimes one of the boys, or Jay, will come in and sit on the
chair just to be by me while I work. I love that!
One night, Marc and I were in Kandi's Korner, when Jay and Eric
came into the room laughing their heads off. Marc and I soon began
laughing along with them as they told us about a movie they had
just returned from seeing. They said it was the dumbest movie that
they had every seen in their lives and were just laughing so hard
as they told us about it. It was a hoot to listen to them, and
just one of the many fun moments we have together in Kandi's
Korner. I've included some photos below from that night.
