Bill Bates was not only onboard to draw the cartoons as seen below, but to use his natural-born talent for art to create drawings of each port of call throughout the 2002 World Cruise of the Seabourn Sun. Bill has been drawing and painting since childhood. Best known for his portraitures such as "The Ratus," which hangs in the Fiji National Museum, and cartoons. His weekly cartoon for the Carmel Pine Cone was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Bill has been a cartoonist/illustrator for the San Francisco Examiner and has illustrated numerous books. In addition, Bill animated a special for ABC Television and produced portraits of 51 famous chefs for three cookbooks. Since he first sailed as a dance host and later as an Assistant Cruise Director for the Royal Viking Line, Bill has published 24 cruise sketchbooks. Every drawing Bill created throughout this cruise will be made into one memorable book, and his drawings are amazing!
