October Topic:  There isn't one!

Jay's responses to questions on the topic of your choice...

Having spent 50 years the entertainment business, and your son being in a movie, what has been your advice to him about being in show business?

My first response is...don't!  Just kidding.  Seeing Jason in a movie and knowing that he had a fun time being an actor, was really thrilling.  I think he has a great talent in any area of production, and I am very supportive of whatever career he decides to pursue.

I hope you do a solo album again soon. I wasn’t able to get a copy of your "It's About Time." Is there a chance it will be released again anytime soon?

Yes, I'd like to re-release it, possibly with a few other songs added to it.

Is there some aspect of the entertainment industry that you have not tried your hand at, but would like to in the future?

I really like all aspects of the business.  I like the creative side the most.  I've been working with Jimmy on the production of the upcoming 50th anniversary special, and have really enjoyed that process.

Did you enjoy the 50th Anniversary in Vegas, and what will you remember most about it?

I'll never forget that experience during those three shows with the people we consider as part of our family.  You could really feel the love from the audience, and I hope they could feel it coming from us.

Is there a song or several songs, that you’ve heard and thought - hey, I’d like to re-record that, but do it my way?

Yes, in fact there are two songs on my solo cassette that I re-did - My Drum and Girl.  I wanted to re-do those songs, because there are stories behind them (that will come out later).  There are some songs that I would still like to re-record, which were on Phase III and Crazy Horses, a few in particular that my brothers wrote and I think are amazing songs.

Have you ever thought of writing a song on your own?

I actually have, believe it or not.  In the Donny and Marie movie, "Goin’ Coconuts," during the part where Donny is playing piano, and Marie is sitting on it, they sing the song I wrote, "Fallin’ in Love Again."  The song was also on my solo cassette, "It's About Time."

To be honest with you, I thought YOU would be on Dancing With The Stars instead of Marie! Would you consider doing that if they asked you?

I'm not sure, but thank you for the vote!

Are you still writing your book, and will it be about your career, your life away from show business, or about everything?

Yes, I am in the process of collecting pictures, thoughts and memories to include in this book. I hope to have it ready after 2008.

Of all the Osmonds, you are the one most recognized as a solo instrumentalist. While everyone here will agree with me that you are deservedly recognized as a world class drummer, I wonder if there was a time (or a particular song) when you were especially impressed by how well one of your brothers played (perhaps a particularly well executed riff or solo)?

My brother Merrill has always amazed me. He is one of the best bass players of the century. I have a particular clip of him playing bass at the Ohio State Fair. One of these days, I’d like to put it on YouTube, but it's only a taste of what he can do with that instrument.

What is your all time favorite song you love to perform?  I’m sure we all think it’s Crazy Horses…is it?...or surprise us!

It is (believe it or not) "Dance to the Music!"

If you could pick one band–any band not Osmond related–to go on tour with as their drummer, what band would that be (doesn't even have to be a band that is together anymore)?

I would have to say Paul McCartney.

I read back in the 70s that you did the choreography for your brothers in concert, and of course, on the D&M show. Do you still do the choreography for your brothers in concert today?

Well, I call it "moving" now! Ha!

I know over the years you have been asked a lot of questions, and a lot of the time, the same ones over and over…and over and over again. I have always wondered is there a question that you would like to be asked that you haven’t, and if so, pretend I asked it and then you could give us your answer!

This one! Ha!

I just love listening to “It’s About Time” - my question is, are there any songs which you have listened to other performers singing, and wished that you had recorded?  Do you have the urge to record another solo album, or have you ever thought of recording one with Jason?

I actually recorded my drum solo on Jason's album, but took it off at the last minute.  I hope to put my voice on Eric's new CD coming out next year on his birthday.

I imagine that through the years the hardest part of being an entertainer has changed many times……but what’s been the easiest part?

Being on stage with my brothers.
